Engage In Constructive Criticism, Majemite Urges Journalists

 

Former commissioner for Lands, Survey and Urban Development, Delta State, Barr. Fred Majemite has cautioned the Nigerian Union of Journalist (NUJ) against publishing fake and wrong news capable of misleading the public.

He noted that journalists are both partners and stakeholders in the development of any nation, state and local government, adding that they should always be truthful and objective in their reportage.

Barr. Majemite gave the charge when members of Ughelli Correspondents Chapel of the Union paid him a courtesy visit at his Ughelli residence, Ughelli, Delta State, saying, “it is vital for journalists to criticise the government where necessary but such criticism should be done constructively.

“You know the importance of the media to the society. You are vital to the development of any nation. I want to urged you to engage in developmental journalism because you are partners and stakeholders in development.”

Earlier in his remarks, the Acting Chairman of NUJ, Ughelli Correspondents Chapel, Comrade Sunday Apah of the Daily Independent Newspaper, who led members to the visit, said membership of the union consist of professionals who are experts in communication.

He added that the chapel members have high proficiency in the deployment of information through their various media houses to the public.
